Do you have a weakness for a particular food that you just can’t live with out? Even if you know how bad it is for you, you just can’t help it?
For my husband it would be onions, even though they are not bad for him…the effects are bad for me and the girls.
For Kailey it would be hot tamale candy ~ a dentist’s best friend.
For Jordyn it would have to be french onion dip…straight up, no chips!
For me it’s barbecue chips, any kind…any brand. After looking at the labels in the grocery store this weekend to try and find the “healthiest” one and the one with the shortest ingredient list, I decided to give a hand at trying to make them myself. How hard could it be? Potatoes with a little bit of oil and some spices minus all the preservatives. Easy enough!
Homemade Barbecue Chips
- 3 russet potatoes
- 1 tbl. olive oil
- 1/4 tsp garlic salt
- 1/4 tsp chili powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
Heat oven to 450 degrees and combine spices. Slice the potatoes very thin or let your food processor do it for you.
Coat the potato slices with olive oil and add the spices until all the slices are completely covered. Spread on a baking sheet in a single layer.
Bake for about 20 minutes, watch them closely as they are apt to burn since they are so thin…trust me!
Voila!!! They taste like they are right out of the bag, only better!!!
Is it easier opening up a bag of chips and popping them into your mouth? Absolutely! But sometimes it’s just fun trying to re-create one of your favs and making them even better!
Not a fan of barbecue? Omit the spices and just add salt for plain chips!

I am addicted to bbq chips. I could eat an entire bag easily. These look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI once tried homemade potato chips but fried them and they wouldn't really crisp up as I wanted them to. Baking sounds like the much better and easier option.

Oooh, I love BBQ chips too! They are def my favorite flavor. I made chips like that too in the microwave, not sure if it would be any easier, because you can only do one plate at a time, but they were SO good!
